In many countries of Asia, national Grid projects for the purpose of construction and operation of a national scale Grid or e-Science infrastructure have been carried out. Nowadays, there exist high demands for making use of Grid for research in science and technology, and more importantly for vitalizing business and industry. In addition, the needs for building an environment for solving shared problems such as earthquakes and tsunami are increasing. However, application of Grid technology to business and industry has been delayed due to several difficulties, which includes problems involving standards for Grid technology. Despite of these common interests, Asian countries have not yet attempted to collaborate more actively among each other to discuss and solve common problems in developing and applying Grid technology. Asia Grid Summit, where all ten national Grid projects of Asia are participating, is expected to provide an exceptional chance to present and discuss common issues, such as make Grid widely accepted in Asia region, and find ways of effective collaboration to solve shared problems.

We propose a workshop that will highlight related national Grid activities in the Asia region, as well as others around the world. This workshop would provide a unique opportunity to expose worldwide researchers in Grid technologies and their applications. The organizers will carefully select and solicit talks to facilitate the goals of this workshop, and be active in encouraging connections between national Grid projects. National Grid project leaders of Asia and funding agencies will be represented at this meeting.

The following topics are of interest, but not limited to:
  • Activities of national Grid projects in Asia region
  • Development of Grid technologies in Asia
  • Enabling Grid Technologies

  • Problem Solving Environments
  • Resource Management and Scheduling
  • Grid Economy and Business Models
  • Development of Grid Applications

  • Grid Security Issues
  • Grid Information Services
  • Creation and Management of Virtual Enterprises and Organizations
  • Data Grids, including Distributed Data Access and Management
  • Grid Middleware and Toolkits
